Environmentally Concious Products Concept
Toshiba Group is emphasizing creation of environmentally conscious products (ECPs) with minimal environmental impacts throughout their life cycles. In order to achieve the target of increasing product eco-efficiency 2.2 times by fiscal 2010, we are striving to reduce environmental impacts of products from three perspectives: prevention of global warming, management of chemical substances and efficient utilization of resources.

Environmental Product Design
"Environmentally conscious" design is a key challenge for PC manufacturers. Toshiba PC group aims to advance closer to this ideal of “environmentally conscious” designed laptops through numerous measures:
- Life Cycle Approach
In developing environmentally conscious products, we reduce the environmental impact of our products throughout their life cycle.
- Resource Saving Design
We continue to limit the materials used in our products, while maintaining performance.
- Energy Saving
We continue to improve the energy efficiency of our products: lower consumption of electric power by each individual user adds up to global energy saving.
- Design for Recycling
We implement product design that makes recycling of materials easy, including design for easy disassembly at end-of-life
- RoHS Compatible Design
We designed and launched our first RoHS compatible laptop PC already in September 2005. Since then, we have been developing and launching RoHS compatible PCs.

Take back and Recycling
Take back and recycling of old Toshiba products
Toshiba develops and provides environmentally conscious products and services which contribute to the reduction of environmental impacts throughout the product life cycle. We implement product design that uses recycled materials for PCs, adopt materials that are easy to recycle, and promote materials recycling.
The aim of recycling is to gain an environmental benefit by means of re-use, reconditioning or recovery of material. Dedicated recycling sites ensure that environmentally harmful components are properly handled and securely disposed. Toshiba and its partners have contracted competent service providers to ensure the best recycling of our products.

Toshiba Plymouth wins at Severnside annual recycling awards:
Toshiba Plymouth has won the award for best sustainable waste management solution at the 2008 Severnside Annual Recycling Awards held in February 2008
The achievements of organisations, who have embraced the green agenda with their efforts to develop sustainable recycling and waste management systems, were at the Severnside Annual Recycling Awards 2008, held at the Millennium Stadium on 21 February 2008.
